Childhood -
Like most Viera of the Rava clans, Wren was born within the dark borders of the Golmore Jungle. Raised in a life of duty and tradition. Yet even in their early years, something restless stirred. Reliable and attentive when it mattered, they often filled their free time with harmless mischief and small performances. Finding quiet joy in making others smile. They found wonder in things others often overlooked– the way light filtered through the canopy, the distant sounds of the jungle, the idea of what life might exist beyond what they had always known. Questions came quietly at first, then more insistent: Why must paths be chosen for them? Why must things remain the way they are?In the end, that feeling became impossible to ignore. Without farewell, Wren stepped beyond the edge of their village. Leaving behind the only home they had ever known in search of something they could not yet name. Though young by Viera standards, the years that followed would shape them slowly, stretching across decades of wandering and change.Young Escapades -
Capable and on their own for the first time, Wren eventually found themselves in Valnain. The port city was overwhelming– alive with noise, color, and people who lived without the rigid boundaries Wren had always known. It was there that the small spark from their youth began to catch fire.Wren became a busker, a natural jester in Valnain’s crowded streets, thriving on laughter and connection. It was never about being watched. It was about creating something people could enjoy, even briefly. Small games, playful tales, fleeting shared moments. It wasn’t just survival. It was joy.During these years, Wren met Lenneth, an encounter that formed a lasting bond. The pair supported each other through uncertain years, building a life from whatever opportunities came their way. But as time passed, survival demanded more.Wren began supporting Lenneth in their less lawful work– finding the right clientele for back-alley fantasias. They told themselves it wasn’t so different from performing. After all, they were still helping people become who they wished to be. Still, such work drew the attention of both wealthy patrons… and the law.Decades slipped by quicker than Wren cared to admit. While others around them aged, Wren remained much the same– a quiet reminder of the long life they inherited, and the distance growing between them and those who could not share it. When the opportunity arose to set sail for Aldenard, Wren chose to leave Valnain behind– not just to escape trouble, but to outrun the quiet ache of impermanence.A New Life & The Calamity -
Aldenard opened the world to Wren in ways they had never imagined. Traveling between the city-states, they gathered stories, experiences, and a new understanding of what brought people together– what made them celebrate, what helped them endure. It was in the Black Shroud that something within Wren settled. The forest echoed the Golmore Jungle, yet lacked the suffocating expectations. In Gridania, they entertained local youth with stories and games, rediscovering the joy that had always driven them– but now with intent. Not just to pass the time, or survive, but to create moments that mattered. That fragile peace did not last.Wren was in Gridania when Dalamud fell. They remembered the sky burning, the terror in the streets, and the helplessness they felt that came with watching the world unravel. For all their years, all the time spent wandering, they had never witnessed destruction on such a scale. It was not one of their stories, not a performance. There was no laughter to soften it.In the days that followed, Wren did what they could. They helped where hands were needed, offered comfort where words failed, and stayed when it would have been easier to run. The Calamity left its mark. It stripped away the illusion that there would always be more time, more chances, more tomorrows. And in its wake, Wren came to understand something simple, fundamental even:Joy was not trivial. It was necessary. The small moments Wren created–the games, the laughter, the shared distractions– those were not fleeting indulgences or just a way to get by. They were what helped people endure. From that point on, Wren stopped drifting. They chose to create those moments with purpose.Found Family -
The years that followed redirected Wren’s path, it became less about survival and more about connection. Through incidental encounters, they gathered a group of companions– each carrying their own stories, their own scars. What began as chance deepened into something more. Slowly, almost without notice, Wren built a sense of belonging.Among them was Nixy. It grew over time, but Wren found themselves drawn to her in a way that felt both grounding and unfamiliar. Nixy saw through the performance, past the ever-smiling jester, and understood the intention behind it. With her Wren couldn’t hide behind the illusion. For someone who spent almost a century drifting from place to place, the idea of staying was unfamiliar– almost frightening. But with Nixy, and the family they found, Wren chose it anyway. Together, they formed a free company, building not just a group, but a home.Current Life -
Now 126, Wren lives in the Mists with their eclectic company. Time has given them perspective, but not dulled their spirit. If anything, time has refined it. Wren is still a performer, still a jester in their own right– but now, with intention. Wren organizes events and playful experiences. Spaces where people can step out of their worries, even if only for a night. They married Nixy in the autumn, a celebratory gathering of those closest to them. After all they have seen, all they have lost, and all the years they have wandered– Wren has come to believe one simple truth: Even the smallest moments of happiness make life worth living.
